We have some exciting news to share with you all in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We have partnered with Know Your Lemons®, an amazing organization that supports breast health education and teaches women how to find breast cancer as early as possible. We know one in three women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and we are so proud to support this organization that is doing amazing things for all women. Throughout the month of October Simple Wishes will be making a significant donation to Know Your Lemons through our founders, and our key influencers and partners. On an ongoing basis, Simple Wishes will be donating 3% of our sales to the Know Your Lemons Foundation to support this organization today, tomorrow and in the New Year.
On October 15, 2020, Corrine, the CEO of Know your Lemons, and Debra, a founder of Simple Wishes and breast cancer survivor, were live on Instagram sharing personal stories, talking about early detection tips and more. In case you missed it, you can click HERE to check it out.
Know Your Lemons® Foundation is the charity behind Know Your Lemons. They are 100% focused on breast health education to help women detect breast cancer as early as possible. Early detection leads to better health. Know Your Lemons has changed the way to educate about breast cancer through powerful and colorful lemon visuals that help overcome taboo, fear and literacy issues. We think this is genius.
While pregnant & breastfeeding, a woman’s breasts go through a tremendous amount of change. Some of these changes can appear similar to some of the signs of breast cancer, which can be scary. Know Your Lemons offers a free downloadable App that can help dispel any fear through education. Women have said that this App is responsible for saving their life. Pretty powerful stuff. The Know Your Lemons App empowers women with information and tools to take charge of their own health. For example, one part of the App provides clear and concise information on common symptoms while breastfeeding that may look similar to signs of breast cancer. It also provides readers with important questions to ask their medical doctor if symptoms persist.
"Our mission is to help women find breast cancer as early as possible through well designed education,” said Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont, CEO Know Your Lemons Foundation. “As breasts change throughout our lives – especially during breastfeeding – it's good to have knowledge to know what to expect and what to do when something unexpected appears. We are happy to be working with Simple Wishes to educate and empower women!"
This partnership is personal to the Simple Wishes family as Debra, one of the founders of Simple Wishes was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 36, by happenstance. She found a tiny lump one evening while lying in bed. If she had not been lying in that specific position wearing a strapless bra with her hand resting on the part of her breast normally covered by a bra strap, she never would have noticed anything. Debra got lucky. She got a breast exam every year in her physical, but didn’t do them at home herself. Thankfully, she did know enough to be alarmed by a lump, however, that is only one of 12 signs. If Debra had any other sign, she may have done nothing. Her first doctor told her that the lump was nothing of concern. Even after an MRI, she was told not to worry. Luckily Debra continued to advocate for her health and she got a third opinion. Thankfully, her cancer was caught at stage 1 and completely removed after a mastectomy. Many women are not as lucky as Debra. Simple Wishes couldn’t be more proud to partner with Know Your Lemons to help save lives through spreading fact-based, actionable education.
