We have some exciting news to share with you all. We are partnering with Know Your Lemons®, an awesome organization that supports breast health education and teaches women how to find breast cancer as early as possible. We know one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and we are so proud to support this organization that is doing amazing things for all women. We will be donating a portion of sales from our SuperMom Bra in Snow Leopard to support this organization (read below for details on this donation initiative).
The Know Your Lemons® Foundation is the charity behind the #KnowYourLemons campaign. They are 100% focused on breast health education to help women detect breast cancer as early as possible. Early detection saves lives. Know Your Lemons has changed the way we look at breast health by using lemons to illustrate symptoms, breast anatomy, and what a lump feels like to educate about breast cancer. We think this is genius.
While pregnant and breastfeeding, a woman’s breasts go through a tremendous amount of change. Some of these changes can appear similar to some of the signs of breast cancer, which can be scary or confusing. Know Your Lemons offers a free downloadable App that can help dispel questions you may have through clear education. Some women have said that the Know Your Lemons® App is responsible for saving their life. Pretty powerful stuff.
Jane from the UK realized she had symptoms after seeing the visual of the 12 signs of breast cancer created by Know Your Lemons. It saved her life. Jane said, “Thank you for your work and for my life. Without Know Your Lemons, I would NOT be here.”
The Know Your Lemons App empowers women with information and tools to take charge of their own health. For example, one part of the App provides clear and concise information on common symptoms while breastfeeding that may look similar to signs of breast cancer. It also provides readers with important questions to ask their medical doctor if symptoms persist.
"Our mission is to help women find breast cancer as early as possible through well designed education,” said Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont, CEO Know Your Lemons Foundation. “As breasts change throughout our lives – especially during breastfeeding – it's good to have knowledge to know what to expect and what to do when something unexpected appears. We are happy to be working with Simple Wishes to educate and empower women!"
This partnership is personal to the Simple Wishes family as Debra, one of the founders of Simple Wishes, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 38, by happenstance. She found a tiny lump one evening while lying in bed. If she had not been lying in that specific position with her hand resting on the part of her breast normally covered by a bra, she never would have noticed anything. Debra got lucky. She got a breast exam every year in her physical, but didn’t do them at home herself. She did know enough to be alarmed by a lump, however, that is only one of 12 signs. If Debra had any other sign, she may have done nothing. Her first doctor told her that the lump was probably and enlarged lymph node and completely normal, but he wanted to be sure and ordered a same-day mammogram and ultrasound. The mammogram was clear, but the ultrasound was concerning, which led to a biopsy.
Luckily Debra consulted with a doctor who was thorough and ordered all of the appropriate tests to get an answer. Thankfully, her cancer was caught at stage 1, and after a mastectomy, Debra is cancer-free. Many women are not as lucky as Debra. Simple Wishes couldn’t be more proud to partner with the Know Your Lemons Foundation to help save lives through spreading fact-based, actionable education.
