Let's start with labor and delivery essentials. Pack your birth plan, insurance information, and hospital paperwork in an easily accessible folder. For comfort during active labor, bring several loose-fitting nightgowns or birthing gowns that allow for easy skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding. Many moms in our community swear by bringing their own soft birthing robe, non-slip socks, and a comfortable nursing bra. Don't forget essential toiletries like lip balm, hair ties, and a water bottle to stay hydrated during labor.
For your postpartum stay, pack high-waisted maternity underwear and your favorite maternity pajamas that accommodate nursing and medical checks. A hands-free pumping bra is essential if you plan to breastfeed or pump. Your newborn will need several onesies, swaddle blankets, and a going-home outfit. Pack your own soft towel, basic makeup, and comfortable going-home clothes – remember, you'll likely still look about 6 months pregnant! Many experienced moms recommend bringing your own postpartum care items like heavy-flow pads, nursing pads, and nipple cream, though hospitals usually provide basic supplies.
